The EF5 tornado touched down at 4:48pm and erased a full one-third of the town of Parkersburg in minutes. Several hundred homes were destroyed and 400 lay damaged. The tornado wiped out the high school, city hall, and the only grocery store and gas station in town. Granite tombstones had been torn from the cemetery. They were found a half-mile away from where they stood the day before.
